Domain ownership

    To own a Web Page you must first buy the domain, e.g. "myownbusiness.com.au".  There are several groups of domain areas, ".com", ".com.au", ".net", ".org", ".co.uk", etc.  Some groups are aimed at specific countries (e.g. ".com.au" is aimed at Australia), others at specific areas (e.g. ".gov" is reserved for government).   Originally, the first group to be established was ".com", and it consisted mostly of companies from the USA or others that wanted international status.  The cost is approximately $20/year for a ".com" domain and $40/year for a ".com.au" domain.

    Web Page Hosting and email system

    Once you own a domain name and your Web Page has been designed, it is ready for world wide viewing.  A Hosting company is an organization that will store your Web Page files, make them available on the Internet, and direct traffic to and from your Web Page.  They will also hold and control your email service.

    The cost varies greatly between companies.  The present costs of our associate company are:

      * $40/year for a ".com" or ".com.au" domain
      * $20/year for a domain 'parked' under any existing domain

   For example, the cost of hosting the domain "myownbusiness.com", plus 'parking' "myownbusiness.com.au" under "myownbusiness.com" (so that "myownbusiness.com.au" always points to "myownbusiness.com" and you only have one web page for both domains) is approximately $60/year.

    The service offers a free email system for your site, and you then can be contacted at your own domain, e.g. "howard@myownbusiness.com.au".  You will no longer be advertising someone else's business when emails are sent to or from you, but you advertise yourself.  The marketing and promotional benefits are immeasurable!

   Web Page Design

    Your photographs, graphics, layouts, text, etc, can be incorporated in the design of your Web Page.  The design of the Web Page is crucial to maximize its penetration in the market place, to ensure that the viewers are captured instead of just browsing, and to maximise favourable ratings on behalf of the Internet search engines.  Web Page design is a balanced mixture of software programming, and aesthetic artistic design.   Imagine yourself watching TV for 1 hour, and subsequently being exposed to 40-50 advertisements.  At the end of the 1 hour period, how many advertisements do you remember?  You will only remember those that have captured your attention, the rest you will not.  The same principle applies to Web Pages, and we strive to create Web Pages that stand out from the clutter.

   The cost is approximately $100/page for a standard page.  A standard page is one that has no e-commerce, no data bases, no passwords, but it can contain graphics, logos, photographs, links, buttons, 'contact us page', title, text, backgrounds (what most small businesses require).
   For a 1 page site there is an extra $50 set up charge.  The service includes free uploading to the Web Site host.  An exact quote can be sent to you once you discuss your specific requirements with us.

   Web Page Administration

   Once your Web Page is available for viewing, you may eventually want to update it, change it, add to it, or simply change the look.   You may need assistance with your email system, backing your system, statistics, checking visibility.  We do offer a service where we administer your site to the level that you require.  The cost starts at $100/year depending on your needs.

    Other Expenses

   You need to organise:

      * Telephone line: Optus, Telstra, etc.
      * Internet connection: Optus, Teltra, Broadband, Dial-up, etc.

    Summary

   To own and maintain a Web Site is relatively inexpensive, since the current technology and pressing demand have enabled this medium to be both a financially feasible and advantageous possibility for small businesses.   For example, you may have an Web site consisting of 6 pages, along with 2 or 3 email addresses for your employees.   The yearly expenses would be approximately:

      * Purchase of "myownbusiness.com.au"= $40
      * Purchase of "myownbusiness.com"= $20
      * Hosting with one domain parked= $60
      * Email system= $0
